When the first firearms were invented, they were designed for use with hats. Firearms like the musket and pistols were not well-suited for firing at close range, so hat designers developed different types of hats that could be worn over a soldier's head to protect him from the recoil. One such design was a "bald cap." These caps were made from cloth or felt and had a band around the top that allowed it to be fixed on the head in a way that prevented it from falling off. The bald cap became popular among soldiers because it protected them from getting their hair caught in the gunpowder residue on their heads. The popularity of hats continued through the 18th century, until Hats Act of 1795 outlawed all new handguns except shotguns. This law caused many people to start wearing helmets as protection against gunfire while walking around town. However, this type of helmet was too heavy and difficult to wear for long periods of time, so it slowly fell out of favor throughout the 19th century. In 1911, Lenexa began hosting its own annual shooting competition known as The Western Gun Show. This event showcased some of Kansas' most innovative firearms businesses and helped revive interest in firearm ownership within the city limits. After World War II ended, gun control laws tightened up across America, which led to an increase in shootings in Lenexa over the next several years. In response to this issue, The Lenexa City Council voted in 1990 to begin selling firearms only at local convenience stores rather than online or at gun shows due to fears that these sales would lead to more shootings within our city limits. Today, Lenexa is one of few cities in America where you can purchase firearms both online and at local convenience stores statewide!

Lenexa, Kansas is a city in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. The population was 585 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita–Anadarko metropolitan area. Lenexa was founded in 1854 as a station on the Santa Fe Railroad. The present city was established in 1909 when it and neighboring Pawnee City were merged to form Lenexa Township. As of the 2010 census, Lenexa had a total population of 585 people. The first white settlers in what is now Lenexa were David Dudley and his family who arrived from Illinois on July 11, 1854. He and his wife Elizabeth Ransom moved into what is now downtown Lenexa about November 1st that year with their two children; David Dudley 3 years old and Mary A Dudley 4 years old. In 1860, General James Hogg sent a detachment of soldiers from Fort Leavenworth to investigate reports of Indian hostilities near present day Lenexa Boulevard and First Street. On October 2nd of that year they encountered four Indians—two chiefs named John Parker and Joseph Bird—and after an altercation which resulted in one soldier being shot dead Hogg ordered all remaining troops to retreat back to Fort Leavenworth without further incident. One evening around December 14th 1859 several farmers living along the route between Pawnee City & Topeka saw five or six smoke signals coming from distant hills over their fields creating the assumption by some that an Apache attack might have taken place just prior to Christmas dinner that year festivities at Mrs Hughes home ended prematurely without any fatalities or injuries however this event would not be reported again for another 60+ years until 1880 when Captain Fenton Evans surveyors travelling through those same areas found evidence BBQ’d Apache skeletal remains buried nearby along with cannonballs & cartridge cases still lying among crop residues (later determined these were private property owners caring for their cattle). After consulting with local attorney J W Laughlin he arranged for Confederate Veteran General Nathan Bedford Forrest (during the American Civil War) to lead an expedition against the Lipan Apaches here within 100 miles of Lawrenceburg including horses & equipment so possible retaliatory action could be taken if necessary resulting in approximately $5000 Dollars worth of goods being seized including weapons/ammunition confiscated plus three saddles, bridles & other items((now on display at Butler County Museum)) also notes & sketches made during this expedition are currently housed under glass inside current building next door while original building across street served as jail before conversion into museum housing facility in early 2000s). By 1870 most all rural landowners east of US Highway 272 had surrendered their land east of US Highway 20 allowing general growth westward accompanying increasing railroad activity which led to urbanization occurred during late 19th century aided by influxes Of Irish Catholics fleeing famine generated there own wavesOf migration later termed "Kansas Cattle Drive" which continues even today as many residents commute daily into Wichita or Topeka due to lack thereof public transportation options outside those cities offerings aside numerous small businesses continue operating today providing services such asumbing construction/repair services lawn care cleaning etc…. A post office called Lenexa was established at this location on October 25, 1874, but failed to take hold because no mail arrived from thence until 1896. A new post office called Jenks opened on November 15th, 1896; Jenks serving concurrently with both townships until consolidation became effective on January 1st 1907 when all postal service within both townships came under one roof creating what is now Shawnee County Public Library system consisting mostlycontaining books acquired thru gift shop acquisitions club membership donations fund raisers bake sales etc…. Lenox Academy (1914-present) also located adjacent privately owns property originally built housing girls primary school operated by Mrs Nichols direct from 1913-1916 then purchased by Mr Snyder fence lines were extended south extreme northwest corner lot abutting Brush Creek becoming main campus site… boys homes open 1912-1915 using Holmes School buildings located northeast corner lot adjoining academy site… primary school closed 1966 absorbed into library system………………………………………..
