Leawood, Kansas is a town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,936 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Leawood was founded in 1881 by people from Illinois and named for Leavenworth County, Kansas. The first post office in Leawood was established on July 24, 1881, and was called North Side. On May 9, 1882, the original town site was surveyed and platted as what is now Leawood. The name of the town may have been inspired by Lawrence County (nowKansas), where many of its founders had lived before coming to Kansas. The first store opened in what is now Leawwood on October 15, 1882. By 1889 there were six stores in town with a population of over 350 people. In 1895 the city of Lawrence merged into Sedgwick County and Leewood became one of its townships; however it retained its own government until 1912 when it passed under Sedgwick County jurisdiction again. In 1907 an act were passed establishing two school districts within Sedgwick County: one for eastern Lawrence Township (Leawood) and one for western Dodge Township (Wichita). At that time only east Wichita School District had a student body larger than 300 students while west Wichita School District had just 108 students; however both districts were created with enough room to add more students without breaking up existing schools or affecting attended rates/districts within their respective townships/counties! This type of arrangement continued until 1965 when all school district boundaries changed due to population growth within each township/ county! The first post office in present-day Wichita opened on December 3rd 1888; this office served Lea Woods which then merged into Wichita Schoolyard District No 2! After originally serving north side residents only after 1957 when south side residents moved into north side building next door due to annexation by Wichita Schoolyard District No 4 they also began serving south side residents after annexation happened!

Leawood is a city in Kansas and the county seat of Leawood County. The population was 37,813 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Kansas after Wichita and it is also the most populous city in Johnson County.
