By 1880, most of the small businesses had closed or been bought out by larger companies and Leawood's main industry remained agriculture until 1907 when heavy manufacturing began arriving thanks to new transportation improvements such as roads and railways that allowed for easier access to markets outside of Wichita and Overland Park. Leawood experienced its greatest growth during World War I when thousands of soldiers moved into the city from surrounding rural areas to fight in Europe. The war created new industries such as munitions production which continue until today; many residents remain employed in these businesses today. After World War I, Leawood went through several economic cycles with periods of prosperity followed by declines before finally experiencing significant growth again during the late 1970s through early 1990s due to advances in technology which has led to new retail stores opening up along with new construction projects including two high-rise towers that have since been demolished. Today, Leawwood remains one of America's fastest growing cities with over $1 billion worth of investments announced statewide every year alone – indicating just how important it is for residents to keep their economy strong given Wichita's impending decline into obscurity should similar progress not be made here soon!

Leawood, Kansas is a small town located in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 598 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first people to live in Leawood were settlers from Illinois and Indiana who arrived in 1854 and built a log cabin on the edge of what is now town. The next year, they built another cabin on the same site. In 1860, they founded the village of Leawood and started trading with other villages near by. They also built a school and store in Leawood. In 1871, a group of farmers from Missouri came to Leawood and began growing corn, wheat, soybeans and other crops. They also built a barn and stockyard there. In 1873, they voted to become an independent city under the name of Sioux City. However, they retained their original name until 1890 when they changed it to Leawood after its mayor namesake (LechlewOOD). The first mayor was William McKinney (1858-1924). In 1907-08, local residents developed what became known as "The Monarchs" golf course which included 10 holes that measuring 847 yards long for men and 714 yards long for women (the courses are now 9 holes each). It was one of several courses developed around Wichita during this time period; others include Hiawatha Golf Course (now Wichita Hills Country Club), Hickory Hills Golf Course (now Calvary Ridge Country Club) and Colony Park Golf Course (now Blue Grass Valley Country Club). Leawood experienced flour production during World War I but stopped after its hostilities ended in 1918. However, it did produce munitions during World War II including shells for the aircraft industry at Plantation Point Ammunition Plant #1 outside town limits where some remain today as well as ammunition used by artillery units throughout Japan during World War II - some still extant onsite today!
Leawood was founded in 1867 by George and Anna Leawood. The town is named after the Leawood River, which flows through it. The Leawood Manufacturing Company was the first business in town. In 1875, the company became part of the Kansas City Era Publishing Company. The company was sold to an Ohio-based printing firm in 1923, and later to a German publishing company. In 1951, the company merged with two other German publishers to form Eisbacher Verlag AG. The publishing house ceased operations in 1970.
