The early personal computers used CRT displays which required direct sunlight exposure for viewing purposes; however, LCD displays are now common on personal computers due to their better lighting performance (CDC 2002a). When it came time to develop digital watches, many different technologies were tried out before settling on quartz movement watches as the best option in 1957 (Flamm 1988: XVI-XXVII). However, when quartz movement watches failed to meet consumer demand within six months after release, Seiko started development of its own movement watch called Ladyada series (Ikeda et al., 2006).

On December 15th of that year – just one month after statehood – a meeting was held in Council Grove (now Larned) Township to consider annexing certain parcels lying east of mile marker 4 on what is now Ulysses S Grant Boulevard NE in Salina to form what would become Larned Township Some residents suggested that Council Grove be renamed "Leavenworth", but against popular vote an ordinance was passed naming the city "Douglas" instead On May 6th 1870 another ordinance changed the name from "Council Grove" to "Levensworth". This change followed annexation of muchlying eastern portions of Salina Township including mile marker 4 which formed today's University Drive NE In 1896 land located along Haskell Boulevard between US-6 and US-24 were purchased by Harry Truman for $225 per acre When Truman became President he developed these lands into Windy Hill Country Club which still stands near his presidential home today . The golf course opened up during World War II as an air force training ground . Today many people visit Windy Hill Country Club for various reasons such as horseback riding or fishing
