It is the smallest city in Kansas and the second-smallest city in the United States after Winona, Minnesota. The official name of the city is "Leavenworth," but it is commonly called simply "Kansas City." The first people to live on what is now Leavenworth were Native Americans who hunted game and gathered plants and berries near present day Wichita. In 1854, Leavenworth was founded as a trading post by Zenas Backus and John A. Macdonald as part of a road trip from Topeka to Council Grove, Illinois. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Santa Fe Trail and its agricultural base which included growing corn, beans, wheat and other crops. By 1880, Leavenworth had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1907, Leavenworth became an incorporated municipality with a Mayor/Council system under state law No. 3110 (9th General Session). On December 15 of that year residents voted by referendum to become an independent city under state law No 232 (30th General Session). On January 2nd of 1908 an agreement was ratified between Kansas City interests groups including Producers Land League (PLL), National Cotton Planters Union (NCPU), American Federation of Labor (AFL) Local 825 and Arkansas Valley Development Company for what would become known as "The Arbuckle Agreement" which provided for 130 acres (50 hectares) of land east of US Highway 362 known then as County Road 514 to be developed into a large industrial park with heavy manufacturing companies such as Armour & Co., Phelps Dodge & Mobil Oil Corporation etc.. Bethlehem Steel Corporation was initially selected to build one plant but they withdrew their application because they did not feel they could compete against Armour &Co., Phelps Dodge & Mobil Oil Corporation etc.. In 1916 Bethlehem Steel Corporation signed an agreement with George Wickersham which would provide them with $3 million dollars in cash plus 10% interest on any profits generated until 1918 in order to build their next plant at Leavenworth called "Wickersham Park". This plant would eventually be named after George Wickersham himself. World War I interrupted production at this plant however World War II did not cause any significant disruptions however there were several accidents involving workers using tools left behind from World War I that caused some loss of life among these workers PLL also filed suit against Bethlehem Steel Corp for war damage allegedly resulting from unexploded ordnance left behind by Polish soldiers during World War I . Ultimately no action was taken due to political pressure from local officials . In 1951 Bethlehem Steel Corporation merged with United Aircraft Industries becoming United Aircraft Products Incorporated or UAPI for short before being sold off again in 1984 . 1979 saw the opening of another steel factory within walking distance of downtownKansas City called Republic Iron Works LLC also located on former County Road 514 later renamed Municipal Boulevard today's Independence Mall . This new steel factory produced cars door handles Little America toys while still employing many locals including future Mayor Ron nelson who worked there starting out as an office employee

It is interesting to note that despite their different production methods – both during World War I and World War II – both sides were ultimately using Ammunition for its killing power!
