There are also two schools: Snyder Elementary School (founded in 1924) and Holland Middle School (founded in 1959). In addition to its few businesses, Lansing had one telephone company from 1928 to 1984; three newspapers from 1907 through 1954; one television company from 1953 to 1974; and one water system from 1912 until 1996.
Lansing, Kansas was founded in 1854 when a party of Mormons from Utah came to the area and settled. The first post office in Lansing was established in 1855. Lansing became a town in 1907. In 1912, Lansing was renamed after General John A. Logan, who served as the 20th Governor of Kansas.
