Earl "Buzz" Prentice scoped out a new game of cat and mouse with the railroad in Lansing, Kansas in 1894. The first recorded sighting of a big, brown bear was made by Buzz on December 10th, 1894 while hunting in the area now known as North Park. This is also when Buzz first introduced his spotting scope to the public. He quickly became well-known for his innovative use of this tool to hunt big game animals. In addition to its farming sector, Lansing has seen growth within the manufacturing industry over recent years due to efforts by local entrepreneurs; however, many traditional sectors continue to be dominant including healthcare services (including hospitals like Mercy Medical Center)and retail trade cafeterias such as Mid-America Foods or Best Buy have continued operations throughout these changesover time INCLUDING THE TIME THE COMMUNITY HAD NO SCHOOLS
