In 1902, James Hogg established a grocery store and gas station at what is now corner Main Street and State Highway 66 (later I-435). The store became known as "Hogg's" until it closed its doors in 1978. In 1862, Lawrence Scott bequeathed $10 to establish Washburn University in Lawrence Scott's memory.
