There are numerous historical markers dedicated to this community including: a historic black church located on Westport Boulevard called Ebenezer Baptist Church which was built in 1892;[8][9] local Black Chamber Of Commerce buildings located on North Avenue between 9th Street & 10th Street dating back to 1924[10];[11][12][13] three blocks south of Downtown on First Avenue near 28th Street there is sectionalized housing that served African Americans until 1955 when it was desegregated by order of Mayor Harry Byrd
