The first permanent settler in what would become Kansas City was Alexander Caldwell on August 6, 1854. Caldwell named his new town after himself and his brother John Auld who lived near Fort Leavenworth at that time. At first it was only an agricultural community with few buildings other than whitesmiths' shops and farmhouses built by settlers to help them improve their land for farming or cattle ranching purposes; but soon enough there were nightlife and recreational activities available to residents too – something that would not be possible until well into the 20th century in most American cities! In 1865 when Union General William Tecumseh Sherman destroyed all vestige of Confederate resistance across much of Missouri he moved his army through KC on its way to invade Illinois and ultimately win the war against slavery! This event forever changed KC due to Sherman's actions: many businesses closed down (or re-opened) because so many people now had access to affordable food right hereabouts; transportation became much more accessible; and KDY radio received its start just one year later! In those early days downtownKC consisted mostly of small outbuildings scattered around what are today Peoria Avenue and Grand Boulevard….but watch out for automobiles when driving through this part today as they’ve really taken over since then! Some fantastic landmarks from these years include Ford’s Theatre where President Abraham Lincoln made his last public appearance before being assassinated on April 14th 1865 (and still remains standing); The Chiefs Hall which served as both a jail/ courthouse during prohibition times throughout most if not all parts east MO & KS (& still does); The Cotton States Bank building erected in 1902 which still stands (& can be seen from Interstate 70 outside), The Renaissance Ballroom (now Starlite Casino & Resort)…the list goes on! The late 1800s saw some pretty amazing technological advancements with regard to telephone service here in KC – something that even people living outside KC might have been able to experience firsthand thanks to various companies like Western Union coming up with innovative ways to provide this type of service without ever leaving our doorstep!!! And we thought email was cool?!?!! Just think about how cool it must have been back then when you could easily communicate with family & friends all over the world via text or even WhatsApp !! although internet speeds back then often weren’t anywhere near what they are now…..so keep that idea ‘in your head’ for tomorrow morning 😉 etc etc etc…..all kidding aside though I very seriously believe that without unsung heroes like these everyday things wouldn’t quite exist here today……..thank you for reading my paper 🙂

Kansas City, Kansas was founded in 1854 by a group of Missourians who migrated to the area following the Mexican-American War. The city's first mayor, James M. Kearny, was elected in December of that year and served until May of 1855 when he was replaced by John A. Logan. In November of that year, Logan was elected governor of Missouri and served from January 1, 1861 to December 5, 1865. He is also considered the first U.S. congressman from Kansas City. In 1863, Kansas City became a territorial capital under the terms of the Compromise of 1868 which placed Nebraska Territory between Mexico and United States as part of efforts to prevent another slave state from forming on the southern border. By 1870, however, Territorial Govt boundaries had shifted eastward so that Omaha now lay beyond Kansas City's jurisdiction while St Joseph (now Saint Josephs) still remained within it with its own government and municipal services. In 1871, Mayor Logan recommended to Congress that Kansas City be made an official city within Ulysses S Grant's new territories which were created following his inauguration as President in February of that year. On March 2nd, 1871 KC became an Official U S City after being ratified by Congress and becoming one half of what is now known as "The Twin Cities." Kansas City continued experiencing rapid growth through annexation throughout much of the 19th century thanks in large part to its location at the crossroads connecting many rail lines and other transportation arteries into what would become America's largest agricultural center during this time period. Additionally,KC played host to numerous livestock shows and exhibitions throughout this time period as well as several minor league baseball teams including the 1889 Washington Senators (later called Minnesota Twins) team which played their home games at Municipal Stadium until 1907 before moving across town to Comiskey Park where they remain today).
