Kansas City, Kansas is home to the world's first handgun manufacturer and holster maker, Smith & Wesson. The company was founded in 1881 by Amos Winchester and George Smith. In 1903, Smith & Wesson merged with Colt Manufacturing Company to form Colt-Smith & Wesson. This merger created a firearms empire that included gun manufacturers throughout the United States. The early days of firearm manufacturing in Kansas City were tumultuous.Gun control laws were changing rapidly at the time, and many people believed that handguns would be the next big thing in American society. The early years of this gun dynasty were also filled with controversy and turmoil. One of the biggest issues facing Smith & Wesson during these times was their relationship with Mayor James Atherton of Kansas City. Atherton was a powerful politician who had a lot to lose if guns started showing up on city streets unchecked. He tried to keep guns out of city hands, but he couldn't always prevent them from being sold illegally or stolen by criminals. Atherton's efforts did little to stop crime in KC until 1930 when Sheriff John Lathrop came into power and made an aggressive campaign against illegal handgun sales and possession within his jurisdiction. This led to an increase in law enforcement activity aroundKC and a decrease in crime rates overall. It wasn't until after World War II that KC saw significant decreases in crime rates again thanks to new policing techniques like supervisory patrols and chemical detection units which focused on identifying contraband not perpetrators

Grant's Brigade (4th Infantry), was briefly stationed there before moving to Omaha Beach where they landed on July 15 to open up England's Channel for potential American entry into World War I In 1870KC was incorporated as a town by act of Congress under the name "Kansas City." In 1905 it changed its name again - this time to "Kansas City proper" - when all eastern Kansas cities were merged into one entity pursuant to state legislation passed that year expanding municipal borders statewide On November 8, 2002 KC became a charter member city of The National League for Cities and has been actively involved in promoting metropolitan policy throughout The NLC since its inception

The city was founded in 1855 as the territorial capital of Kansas Territory and was named for General John C. Fremont, who had been its first governor. It became the capital of the new United States after passage of the Kansas–Nebraska Act in 1854. In 1907, when an act was passed to annex Sedgwick County to Kansas City proper, Mayor Harry Wirths proposed that the name for Sedgwick County be changed from "Fremont County" to "Kansas City." The original town of Kansas City was founded by Major George Rogers Clark on April 14, 1854. It was named for General James K. Polk, the first U.S. president to be impeached and removed from office. The city's growth started with the construction of the Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1869 and continued during the late 1800s as a result of its location on the Comanche Trail and other transportation opportunities. The city's expanding economy also led to its nickname "the entertainment capital of the world." Kansas City was host to several large events during its early years such as the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893 and The Cotton States Convention in 1902. In 1907, it became one of America's largest cities when it annexed nearby Olathe. Additionally, Kansas City played a significant role in Nixon's presidency with his first inauguration being held here on January 20, 1969. After decades of decline, KCX (later KCTV) began experiencing rapid growth starting in the late 2000s as a result of new development and increasing population levels within its borders
