Junction City, Kansas is a small town located in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 709 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first target holders were built in Junction City in 1892 by Fenton Atherton and his son-in-law, Wm. Hays. They were made from pine boards that were cut to size and then glued to a post with nails. The targets could be moved around by shaking them and they would stay sharp for many years. In 1907, Jcton Mayor John Purdy donated land on which he built a Shooting Range that still stands today. This range was used for rifle shooting as well as pistol shooting. At this time, target holders had to be made out of heavy wood so they could withstand the recoil of the guns being used. The next year (1908), Junction City residents erected a new Target Holder Building which still stands today inside the city limits of Junction City proper. This building served as both the Municipal Buildings and also housed Jcton’s Rifle & Pistol Club until it disbanded in 1922 when World War I started and Firearms Regulations changed; now only pistols are shot at this range! During World War II there was an increase in ammunition production due to necessity related to munitions rationing; however, no further damage or modification to those old Target Holders took place within the community after hostilities ended! In 1946, local businesses got together and formed what is currently known as “Junction City Merchants Association” who began purchasingOldTargetHoldersandrepairingthemuntiltheywereasgoodAsnew(althoughtherehavebeena fewalterationsovertheyears). In 1965 (the original date marked on some of these Target Holders), OldTargetHolder #2 was replaced by NewTarget Holder #1 which still remains standing today within town Limits! These two Target Holders have been instrumental in keeping our Community very active ever since!

Junction City, Kansas is a town in Butler County, Kansas, United States. The population was 4,431 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality within Butler County and the most populous town in the county. Junction City is also home to Wichita State University. The first permanent settler in Junction City was James Hays on October 20, 1867. Hays and his wife Hannah founded what would become known as the "Hays Mill" area east of present-day Junction City. In 1869 Charles J. Hutchins arrived and bought land along both sides of Union Pacific Railroad Tracks 12th Street south of present day First Avenue (now US-12). Hutchins named his new community "Junction City." In 1870 Samuel French moved to Junction City from Overland Park and established a store on Main Street where it remains today. French also donated land for building schools in Junction City which are now known as French Elementary School (grades K-8) and South High School (grades 9-12). In 1875 John Ladd purchased approximately two square miles of land north of First Avenue from Samuel French for $1,000 cash only - making him one of the last settlers to come to Junction City. Ladd erected a log cabin which he called "Ladd's Mill." He later became president of nearby Topeka Brewing Company. Ida Belle Pruitt came to Junction City from Topeka in 1907 and opened her business at corner Main Street & Depot Road which still stands today as Pruitt’s Drug Store #2A . . . Mrs. Pruitt raised chickens for eggs until 1914 when she began selling chicken feed direct from her farm by wagon train from Topeka via Union Pacific Railroad tracks near junction with I-435/US 12 near Wichita Falls, Texas! On April 3rd 1912 Mr.. Wm.. Vail opened a general store at what is now cornerMain Street& Depot Road opposite Mrs.. Pruitt’s Drug Store #2A after coming across an ad in an old journal for “General Store open daily 6 A M till 5 P P” That establishment served as Vail’s Business Office until 1935 when it burned down due to faulty wiring! The post office was first established at junction city by order of President Usher on November 25th 1861 under name postal station No.... In 1865 mail service between Topeka and Kansas CITY started thru wagons interchanging with trains running thru Beech Grove Tunnel west of Topeka
