Junction City is a town in Butler County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. Junction City was founded in 1875 by James Fenton and his wife Sarah. It became a city on November 3, 1907. The first post office at Junction City was established in 1875, and remained in operation until it closed on February 26, 1912. The first store opened at junction city on October 15th of that year. A general store and bakery were both built soon afterwards and remain operational to this day. The town's growth came from its location as the crossroads of two important wagon roads: the Santa Fe Trail ran through the community while US-70 passed through it to Dallas and Wichita Falls; also, Keystone State Railroad ran through it which made transportation available for many of the early businesses within the community. During World War I Junction City served as an airfield for American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) forces conducting aerial warfare over Europe. A new airport was constructed just east of town during World War II named after General Dwight D Eisenhower – who was then president of America – with assistance from local residents and business owners who raised money for the project from pledges they had made to their churches or other civic organizations. However, due toNavistar Corporation's decision not to build any more railroads into Butler County following its acquisition of Kansas Central Railway in 1984, Junction City never saw much use as an airport – although there were some small helicopters used for crop spraying operations until 2005 when a hangar replaced this capacity with a larger helicopter hangar being built adjacent to Interstate 70). In 2001, several former KCEQ employees merged their company with AMFM Satellite Radio Company (later Univision Radio Network) forming what would become known as "Junction City Radio". At that time all programming aired including high school sports games/teams/events; college basketball games/teams/events; Spanish language programming; college football games/teams/events; local news; weather reports; music programs (including classic rock shows); shortwave radio services such as International Morse Service and WWVX; digital signal processing voice service products called iHeartRadioToday™ and SiriusXM Satellite Radio™ services therein via Ethernet connection only using analog radios only until approximately 2009 when those same products went digital exclusively using satellite connections thereby reducing negative environmental impact associated with traditional audio streaming processes utilizing electrical cabling - something we feel should have been done decades ago! Today about 60% or more all programming aired within Greater Junction City takes place via satellite rather than electric cabling - another example of how technology has impacted our lives positively!

It was established on a bluff overlooking the river and its confluence with the Wingate Fork. The small town had a population of about 100 people when it was platted. The first post office in Junction City was established in 1862, and remained open until 1907. In 1865, the Union Pacific Railroad built a line from Topeka to Junction City, connecting it with Chicago. The town became an important trade center for the railroad company and developed into a busy commercial district. By 1900, Junction City had become an incorporated city with a population of over 1,000 people. The city grew rapidly during the 1920s as World War II brought new technology to market and active advertising drove commerce through downtown streetscapes filled with towering stores and high-rise buildings. During the war years, many military families moved to Junction City to avoid combat zones; their descendants continue to live in the city today.
