By 1907 only 5 people lived in junction city and by 1930 only 8 remained . Development started slowly but surely as businesses moved into downtown area including a movie theater (1927), grocery store (1928), bank (1929), restaurant (1930) and health club (1932). By 1940 there were 12 businesses in downtown with an estimated population of 25-40 people However due to World War II military activities nearby such as Fort Riley Army Base increased production jobs available in Wichita creating shortages within Junction City
