An annual gay pride parade takes place in downtown Junction City each year beginning on Saturday afternoons aboard the steamboat Union Pacific Railroad's "Horizon" river excursion boat which leaves from Wichita's Broadway Pier opposite Terminal 3B (formerly US- 81) every summer since 2007; prior to that it took place annually on Labor Day weekend in early May aboard analogous vessels moored at nearby White Sands Marina dockage facility until about 2015 when its location changed due to redevelopment efforts adjacent NMHP property across river from city limits

The first settler to arrive in Junction City had come from Illinois in September 1866 on the Mayflower with eighty-two others; they named their new community after Ulysses S. Grant's hometown of Bloomington (then represented by a separate seat in Congress). In 1871 Junction City incorporated as a city; it became an independent municipality again in 1902 when Johnson County merged intoKansas statehood. As an unincorporated village until 1954, Junction City enjoyed wide autonomy under its own government structure but has since formed part of Wichita Metropolitan Area through annexation by Wichita. The history of Junction City starts with early pioneers who arrived here during the late 1850s hoping to find fertile land to farm near Wichita Falls or Topeka due to advances made within America's westward migration Southward during that decade-long time period which opened up vast areas for settlement including what are nowKansas' Clay Hills region as well as much rural east-central Johnson County where this author lives today!
