Junction City, Kansas is a town in Barton County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Junction City was founded in 1881 and named for the junction of the Santa Fe Railway and the Union Pacific Railroad. The first post office in Junction City was established in 1883. In 1907 Junction City became a city. In 1959, Junction City merged with neighboring Kipling to form the current city of Wichita. Junction City is a small, unincorporated community in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. It lies along U.S. Route 54 east of Topeka and north of Junction City itself. The first post office in Junction City was established on March 14, 1871, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on July 6, 1912. A fire destroyed the local school in 1915, which left the town with only one school room and twelve students. A new school building was built in 1916 and remains in use to this day as the town's only public building. The first store opened in Junction City in 1875; it closed its doors around 1930. By 1960, there were only five remaining businesses within the town limits. However, since then several more have opened up within a few miles of Junction City including KFC World Headquarters & Grill (2007), Lowe's Home Improvement (2008), Petsmart (2009), Bob's BBQ Pit & Grills (2010) and Subway sandwich shop (2011). In addition to these larger businesses there are also several small businesses located within or adjacent to Junction City that provide services such as auto repair shops and grocery stores; some even have their own currencies - for example Lowe’s has two types of currency: Regular Currency ($1/$2) and Supercenters ($5/$10). These smaller businesses often don't have any signage or marketing efforts outside of their individual storefronts so it can be difficult to tell which business offers what service; however residents know that most of these businesses offer fuel/lube sales as well as groceries/take-out orders from home during peak hours which allows them to stay open late into the night without having to worry about running out of food supplies.

Junction City, Kansas is a town in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 996 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1854 as a trading post on the Missouri River. The post office was moved to Junction City in 1912. The first settlers of Junction City were two men, Ebenezer Marcus and David Wilkinson, who arrived on horseback from Independence, Missouri on July 4, 1854. They built a log cabin near the junction of the Clear Fork and Arkansas Rivers. The original town was named "Junction City" after the junction of these rivers where they made their first market trip. In December 1855, four men—John Haggerty, James Snively, Wm Rogers and George Aiken—arrived from Council Bluffs with horses and wagons seeking to cross the Republican River into Oregon Territory forts built there by Ulysses S Grant during his Overland Expedition that year. They left Junction City on December 10 for Fort Leavenworth but failed to find any water or food for their horses so they turned back early that night and continued on foot until they reached Council Bluffs two days later. On Christmas Day they took delivery of provisions at Fort Riley before continuing their journey across Nebraska Territory to council Bluffs where they departed again December 26th having traveled over 100 miles (160 km). A few months after arriving in Junction City, Ebenezer Marcus died from yellow fever contracted while visiting his brother-in-law in St Louis County,. David Wilkinson succeeded him as postmaster; he served until 1865 when he resigned because of ill health also known as "the white death". He bequeathed $5 per month to each resident in his memory until it amounted to $100 ($ today). In 1876 John Haggerty erected an octagon building which still stands at Main Street corner (now First Avenue) which served as Post Office until 1907 when it became an attribute of the University of Kansas campus; it is now operated by KU Parks & Recreation Department as a museum open daily except Wednesdays through Sundays when it is closed for maintenance purposes. In 1912 Richard Cramer established a flour mill in Junction City; this mill operated until 1974 when it burned down due to faulty wiring allowing high winds to damage it.; Cramer donated all proceeds from its sale ($8000) plus interest thereto (totaling $11500) to the city hall library which has since been renamed JCLibrary annexe after him special thanks go out especially Mrs Susan Ganske Curl who helped get us started From its founding through World War II Junction City experienced growth; by 1910 its population had increased by 50%. During World War II much activity took place here involving both civilians (such as production at nearby Mounds National Monument) and military troops stationed here including Coast Guard Station New Orleans Bayou along with other facilities such as Army Ammunition Plant No 2 situated just outside town Limits . On November 6th 1942 Japanese forces attacked American forces staging at Midway Island resulting in more than 1 000 casualties including many American soldiers killed or captured including Co-pilot First Class Edward Rickenbacker Jr who would later become one of America's most famous aviation heroes
The first known permanent settlers in Junction City were the Hennepin County settlers, who arrived in 1854. The town was platted in 1865 by John L. Wiggins and others, and named for the junction of two creek valleys – one on the east side of the city and another on the west side.
