Gun Targets in Junction City, Kansas have been a part of the community for over seventy years. The first target shooting Club was organized in Junction City by Dr. John Witherspoon in 1904. From that time until 1949 there were only six clubs meeting each month and about thirty shooters. In 1949, a new club was formed with eighty-six shooters and it has grown every since. Today, there are over one hundred members who shoot at gun targets monthly throughout the year. Gun Targets is one of the centers of activity for target shooting in Junction City and is an important part of the community!

There are a number of gun targets that date back to the earliest days of this town, including a cannonball target and an old fortification.
Junction City is a small town in Clark County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Junction City was founded in 1854 by Mormons pioneers from Utah. The Mormon Church moved its headquarters to Salt Lake City in 1896. The first post office in Junction City was established on July 17, 1854, and remained open until it closed on December 12, 1865. A new post office was built on the same site and opened on January 3, 1866. The name of the first post office is unknown but it likely refers to a junction of two main trails which crossed near what is now Main Street: "New Jerusalem" trail led north and "Old Jerusalem" trail led south. In 1890 two brothers named Wickersham started a store at what is now corner Main and Elm Streets; their store became one of the largest in Junction City with a floor area of . In 1893 an opera house called the Grand Opera House was built opposite their store; it burned down in 1902 but has been reconstructed several times since then (most recently as part of an exhibit about Wichita's history at Topeka's Regency Ballroom). In 1898 an oil well was drilled under Main Street; when production increased prices for gasoline reached $1 per gallon ($ today), merchants began using this money to build stores such as Wickersham's into larger enterprises. They also raised money by selling flowers during Carnival season (now known as Fourth Of July). By 1915 Junction City had over 100 businesses with space for 800 residents plus surrounding lots that could be rented out for cultivation or farming purposes or used for storage or housing developments (e.g., Cottonwood Heights). A fire destroyed most of downtown Junction City on December 15, 1918 after starting around 10pm while people were celebrating Christmas dinner inside the Grand Opera House; only three homes were damaged overall and no lives were lost however many businesses sustained significant damage including Wickersham’s Store which caught fire again just days later despite being rebuilt! In 1920 another large oil well was drilled under Main Street; prompt action by local authorities put out this fiery blaze within minutes following reports that people were climbing up onto rooftops to watch without proper safety gear! In 1924 local officials voted to rename town Junction City after former Mayor John Henton who also served as Interim Governor of Oklahoma Territory during that time period- thus giving birth to our current nickname “The Hub” citywide! Prior to his term beginning he had served as Mayor from 1907-1911…Henton helped lead voter registration drives throughout central Kansas leading up to statehood in 1907 so he would have more clout once Kansas became a country! He also spearheaded efforts promoting education reform among other things while serving as mayor!! Between 1925-1927 he served concurrently as Territorial Governor preceding his term ending there too due to expiration of territorial powers……Henton left behind some lasting memories including murals funded by him along Main Street depicting life prioritizing work over play/family time…..In 1931 Henton succeeded Will Rogers as President pro tempore US Congress before dying five years later aged 82 years old due to causes still unresolved sixty years after his death….Now we continue our journey back through history every 4thofJuly thanks mainly to Congressman Henton’s memory)

Junction City was founded in 1867 by George A. Smith and John W. Brown, both of whom were immigrants from Pennsylvania. The town became a railroad center after the Kansas Pacific Railway (KP) built its line through the area. Junction City experienced rapid growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s, thanks to its position as a transportation hub for central Kansas. The town also became known for itsartisanal architecture, including Gothic Revival and Commercial buildings. In 1932, Junction City was merged with other nearby towns to form an enlarged city called Uniontown. The merger caused several local businesses and residences to collapse, however, and the city saw little success in the years following its incorporation. In 1968, Uniontown was renamed Junction City again in order to more accurately reflect the town's history and current status as a small but important community within central Kansas

The first store in Junction City opened in 1856. The town rapidly became a major center for trade on the railroad and also developed as an agricultural center.
