Businesses grew rapidly throughout most of the 1920s and early 1930s; however, during this time period there were also waves of violence which led to several businesses being destroyed or closed down including those run by Fenton's father-in-law Edmond Hennepin. In 1935, when Wichita became an incorporated city under state law rather than just a county seat like Junction City had been since 1907, Fenton donated land east of Main Street for use as an entertainment district called "Fenton Park." This area would become known as "the Entertainment District" because many large movie theaters were built here during its heyday (the late 1940s through early 1960s). The Music Hall (now Orpheum) building on Main Street served as both a theater and music hall until it burned down in 1966; however, due to its location near downtown and its popular tourist attractions such as fountains located inside/outside various buildings within walking distance of each other (including venues such as Topeka's Topeka Civic Auditorium), nearby businesses continued to operate inside/outside the building until 1973 when they all came together to form what is now known as "the Plaza". At that point business corridors started opening up again southward along Third Street which bisected Main Street before continuing eastward along University Boulevard until terminating at Interstate 435 yards north of Union Station on Capitol Hill Drive today - making Junction City one contiguous commercial center dating back over 100 years! Today nearly every store within easy walking distance has some sort of open air seating indoors or outdoors – keeping things lively year round!
