These guns were known as “Tiny Pistol” rifles because they had a small size compared to other firearms at the time. In 1892, a company was founded in Junction City called the Western Arms Company. This company produced some of the first BB Guns in the United States and exported them around the world. In 1907, American Armory products became available in Junction City and began producing BB Guns under their own name. American Armory continued to produce these weapons until 1971 when they merged with another company to form Brownells Firearms Corporation.

Junction City was founded in 1881 by citizens of Leavenworth and was named for its junction with the Santa Fe Railroad. The first post office in Junction City was established on May 25, 1881, and served as the namesake for the town. The first store opened in what is now the downtown district in 1881. The original school was built on Main Street and operated until 1916. In 1907, Junction City consolidated with Centerville to form a new city government which lasted until 1959 when it merged with Wichita to form Wichita-Junction City Municipality. In 1909, Junction City erected a large brick building on Depot Square that served as its municipal hall until it burned down in 1951. The current Municipal Building replaced it and opened on October 12, 1957. It has been used as a library since 1980 and currently serves as the city's seat ofgovernment According to the 2010 census, there are 966 people living in Junction City: 553 who are registered as Democrats (47 percent), 326 who are registered as Republicans (24 percent), and 33 who are unaffiliated (3 percent). In 1921, Winchester introduced their first self-loading rifle pistols which featured hinged breeches allowing them to be reloaded without having to remove the entire firearm. This ushered in what is known as “the age of automatic weapons” where rifles could be fired automatically using magazines instead of having to remove each cartridge every time you wanted to shoot. Thanks to these innovations, machineguns like the M1 Garand became one of America’s favorite military weapons after World War II.

By 1907, Junction City had become one of the largest rail junctions in Kansas; it served as a model for other towns that wished to become railway hubs. In 1916-17, Junction City hosted the Western Economic Conference; this event helped stimulate economic development within western Kansas. In 1929-30, Junction City became known as "the most bombed town in America"; during World War II it experienced some significant bombings from Japanese forces due to its proximity to Tokyo headquarters
