Junction City, Kansas is a small city in the U.S. state of Kansas. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Missouri River near its confluence with the Arkansas River. Junction City is part of Lawrence County and lies about halfway between Topeka and Wichita. The first permanent settler in Junction City was James Smeaton in 1869. He opened a wagon stop on the Missouri River for travelers coming from Topeka and Wichita. The town's name comes from its location at what was then called "Junction Post" on both banks of the river; as each bank became more level, "Junction Post" became "Junction City". In 1875, John Waddell founded an agricultural colony near present-day Junction City and started to raise crops there. The settlement grew rapidly, and by 1886 it had a post office, two churches, five stores, six residences, four wagons, twelve horses, one plough and two looms. By 1890 Junction City had over 100 residents and ten businesses including a hotel which served as headquarters for several years during that time until it burned down in 1907). In 1912 Waddell sold his interest in the colony to J C Bigham who continued to operate it until his death in 1951 In 1913 oil was discovered at Anadarko shale field west of junction city; this led to anoil industry which developed nearby while Junction City continued to grow steadily with its three-story brick buildings housing local businesses such as banks (the first building still stands today), doctors' offices (one still remains open today), grocery stores etc., becoming known as "The Hub". A few years later another oilfield discovery led to increased production at the Hub site but by 1970 all production had ceased due to environmental concerns about hydraulic fracturing (fracking) activities near town wells which were now under water tables again following several years of drought . Some families left JunctionCity after learning about these risks but others chose to stay because they could see how their community had turned into something different than when they arrived - now homegrown businesses thrived thanks not only to good economic conditions but also increasing competition from other towns upriver . Although some locals continue working in these industries nowadays (eBay has been headquartered in JunctionCity since 1995), most people have retired or moved away since those early days when business growth depended largely upon upstream access to resources that no longer exist

Junction City is a small town in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 730 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita-Hutchinson metropolitan area. The first people to live in Junction City were the Hennepin tribe and their allies who moved from Minnesota in 1854. They named their new community after a junction of two rivers, the Santa Fe and White Rivers. The first post office was established in 1855, and by 1860 Junction City had a population of about 150. In 1865, the Union Pacific Railroad reached Junction City from Topeka via Salina and Indianola. A depot was built at junction of the two main streets which became known as "Junction City Station." In 1870, a school building was erected on Main Street; it served as the town's schools until 1907 when they were transferred to Topeka public schools. The last train arrived at Junction City Depot on December 15, 1907; it had been travelling from Council Bluffs through Wintersession to New York City that day. The depot closed three days later because of railroad accidents which occurred near Keystone Lake during wintertime. In 1916, smallpox broke out in America; within weeks over 2 million people had contracted it and by January 1st most of those cases had been eliminated across the country but there were still many areas where it remained unacknowledged or uncontrolled. On January 4th President Woodrow Wilson signed Executive Order No., 10525 creating an executive branch body called Federal Health Administration for controlling all aspects of preventable diseases throughout America including smallpox control programs under authority of Preventive Services Branch (US Public Health Service). From 1917 until its abolition in 1953 there were 5 District Office Centers located around America providing primary oversight for all health programs affecting American Indians/Alaska Natives: eastern Washington - Seattle & Tacoma; central California - Sacramento & San Francisco Bay Area; Oregon Coast - Eugene & Bend; western Texas - Amarillo & Alpine
