Haysville, Kansas is a small town in Perry County, Kansas, United States. The population was 379 at the 2010 census. It lies approximately 9 miles (15 km) east of Hutchinson and 18 miles (30 km) south-southwest of Wichita. The first settlers in Haysville were pioneers known as the Hays family who arrived in 1855. They came from Kentucky. The name "Haysville" was given to them by General James Hays who had helped lead the Union army during the Mexican–American War. In 1886, John Phebe Hays died at age 93 while on a visit to Haysville; his wife Phyllis succeeded him as proprietor and sole owner of the town post office which continued until it closed on December 12, 1902. Today, there are several businesses that still maintain their operations in what once was a small town: First National Bank & Trust Company (founded 1903), Kwik Trip restaurant (founded 1984), The Gilded Cage bar and grill (established 1978), J C Penney store/utheran church complex/residential building (1897-1902), and East Texas Lodge No. 4 Masonic Temple (established 1926). A number of other businesses have closed since then including two restaurants that closed after only five years each: Cherokee BBQ Restaurants and Butchers' Table Café; one medical clinic which stopped offering services in 2006; one grocery store that closed its doors after just three years; one small convenience store which shuttered its doors in 2009; one saloon which also folded up its business after just five years; and two bars - One Hundred Bars & Grilles located next to an elementary school used for community swimming between September 2007 and March 2008 when water levels receded too low for swimming because of construction work being done nearby - all within a few blocks of each other - all closing shortly thereafter due to economic decline or lack thereof. Haysville is also home to another small business community called "The Girders", consisting of about 10 homes built around 1955-1960 that were abandoned when Highway 56 was laid down through the center infield of baseball diamonds now occupied by an auto dealership garage lot Just north of town off US 56 is Lubbock Memorial Park with hiking trails leading into surrounding hill country
