The late 1800s were a time of great change for Haysville. The arrival of railroads brought new industry and population growth; but at the same time, social tensions mounted ashdween Anglophone settlers who were newcomers to what was then largely Anglo-Saxon society and local Native American populations who feltpressured by white developers to build more extensive irrigation systems on their land. This tension culminated in several riots in 1904-05 that left at least 24 people dead or wounded
