The present post office building was built in 1909 and is still in use today. Haysville has a small college called Haysville College which serves as the only center for teaching agriculture and forestry technology to high school students in Geary County. In addition to providing this service, the college also offers classes in business administration, engineering science/engineering management, law enforcement officer training and more. The townsite of Haysville was named after Representative James Wickersham (R-Kansas) who served from 1865 to 1868 and 1870 to 1875.

The town was originally located on the east side of the Arkansas River, but it grew so rapidly that it moved to its current location in 1881. The first school in Haysville opened in 1871 and the first store opened in 1875. The post office was established in 1876 and the first church was built in 1882. In 1907, Haysville became an incorporated city. Today, it remains an unincorporated community with a population of about 950 people. One of Haysville's most notable residents is Congressman George Mitchell III – he has represented the area since 1985. He is also known for his work on behalf of rural development and energy conservation issues. Additionally, Representative Todd Akin represents neighboring Riley County at this time; he currently holds no offices within Haysville but previously served as mayor from 2006 to 2014 and as deputy county judge from 2002 to 2006.
