Haysville is a town in Clay County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first settlers in Haysville were Levi Parsons and his family who arrived on July 20, 1854 from Topeka. Levi set up a farm about one mile northeast of the present day town site. He and his wife, Rebecca (née Smith), had six children: Abraham (1855-1914), George (1857-1929), Levi (1859-1945), Emmalee (1861-1946), Lewis Morris (1863-1945) and Mary Jane Beardsley (1865-1968). In 1881, Haysville was platted as a village by James Henshaw with Wm. Stephenson as surveyor. The village plat included a school and two stores. That year also saw the arrival of John Atherton from Pottawatomie County to take over the post office duties in Haysville. A post office was established at Haysville on November 15, 1881 by Wm Stephenson with J Fenton as clerk. By 1910 there were five businesses in the Village: A store, bakery, doctor's office/medical supplies store, hotel and livery stable. In 1914 an addition to the original school building was built for $5 per acre including land for future growth; it doubled asangeroom until 1938 when new buildings were erected on both sides of Main Street across from School #2 which still stands today! The first church services were held at this building on October 12th 1865 by Rev J B Stockett with Mrs L S White officiating! In 1924 Reverend E G Willis became pastor after serving four years as assistant minister at First Presbyterian Church in Overland Park KS! Haysville has seen many changes over its decades including becoming an agricultural center during World War I thanks to various war production projects such as airplane parts made here; during Prohibition it became known for its 'Pumpy' Ale brewery; following prohibition it experienced rapid growth due to Outfitters Hall tavern & grocery opening nearby that served locals & visitors alike until forced closure in 1951 due to state liquor laws change; then steady decline throughtil recent times with few notable exceptions like loss of main street business due to rezoning - which caused increased traffic congestion along Main Street - combined with annexation of neighboring towns has resulted in chronically low population levels even while experiencing some modest economic growth since 2000!
