The name was changed to Haysville on January 12, 1886. A store and blacksmith shop were built in 1887 by John Hays and his brother Edward Hays. The first school in Haysville was opened on May 15, 1888 by Lillie Jandreau. A post office named for George Washington Kite had been open in this town since 1880 but it closed on July 2, 1888 due to lack of customers. A grocery store and feed store were built along main street in 1911 by Wm Fenton and Addison Senteras. In 1916 a sawmill started operation with capacity of 25 acres; it continued until 1954 when it became a part of the Wichita Mills Corporation. In 1919 a millrace that crossed Buffalo Creek near present-day Haysville Road began operations as an impoundment for cattle used for breeding purposes in Riley County; it continues today as an agricultural waterway known as "Buffalo Creek Dam". This millrace also served as the original border between Wichita County and Johnson County (later Kansas). In 1929 a new high school (now Northwest High School)was completed west of Main Street; physical education classes were added to the school system that year from Pawnee Elementary School which had been operated jointly by Indianola Schools District No.(2) (later Haskell−Overland Communityschool District No.) & Iroquois Community School District No.(3) . In 1936 an all-weather track/ Soccer field was completed east of Main Street east of Highway 10th avenue & south side alley . Also that year eastern terminus of Highway 10th avenue (now Business I‐10th Avenue)was moved from Indianola to north side alley behind building now occupied by Northwest High School
