In 1861 Isaac Naylor came to Great Bend from Independence, Missouri and set up shop as a farmer east of town on Damstream Creek. On July 1st that year he married Anna Gates who also lived in nearby Independence then took up farming there too until she joined him north of town about 1880 when she gave birth to her only child – Clara Barton Naylor (1881-1964).
