Gardner, Kansas is a small town located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Kansas. It is the most northerly town in Kansas and lies on the border of Nebraska and Missouri. The population was 1,353 at the 2010 census. The first flashlights were made in Gardner by George Washington Gardner, Sr., a resident of this town for more than 70 years. He started making flashlights in 1924 and his company was active until it closed its doors in 1957. In 1938, another local manufacturer, John Ladd, started manufacturing flashlight products in Gardner as well. By 1955, all production had ceased because of heavy competition from other manufacturers from around the country. In 1958, two brothers who lived near Gardner began producing lightbulbs using filament lights that used lead or brass tubes to produce light. This led to the start of what would become known as flashlight manufacturing with LED technology becoming available only about 15 years later when they introduced an LED-based product called The LED Flashlight Company into business (www.ledflashlightcompanyusa). During these early days there were several companies sellingLED flashlights but few if any produced high quality products due to their relatively low price tags which made them difficult to sell outsideOf North America at that time(www2). Flashlight manufacturing resumed after LEDs became available thanks to efforts by members of alocal community group calledthe Light Brigade who decided that they should make some affordableLED models so that people could purchase them instead of having expensive professional equipment( www3 ). Aftermarket LED devices continued being produced until LEDs became mainstreamin 2009 when Cree released their very first LED flashlight which was dubbed Cree XP-L HI (www4 ). There has been much progress made since then including new designs and improvements such as waterproofing along with advances in material science which has allowed for longer lasting LEDs and even brighter light output with less heat ( www5 ). With today’s technology we are able to provide increased brightness while maintaining long life spans giving people easier access to safe night vision while also providing entertainment options like headlamps and security lights( www6 ).

Gardner and 2 other men opened fire on several people during an attempted robbery near the town square. One man was killed and 3 others were wounded; all three men were taken into custody and charged with murder but eventually acquitted after trial that year. That same year Captain Gardner also bought two shotguns from James Weirig and Carry Swanton in Emporia for $50 each. In 1889 Captain Gardner started the first cooperative grocery store in the area - called The Grain & Cheese Store - which is still open today as groceries store number 611 in the town square.. In 1893 Captain Gardner married Edna Bogan and they moved to Topeka where he started his own hardware store before retiring in 1921 having owned it since 1916... In 1914 Capt John S Gardner died suddenly at home while out golfing with his friends Majors Kappelmeyer and O'Neill...

In 1957, Dutch scientist Hendrik Hertzog invented and patented the first battery-operated flashlight with an on/off switch. The device was called the "Hertzog flashlight." The flashlights we know today were created in the early 1960s by two inventors from Germany, Ernst Kreutzwald and Wilhelm Keppler. They came up with a design for a flashlight that had three leaden barrels wrapped around a metal frame. These new flashlights were called "Kreutzwald lights."
Gardner, Kansas is a town in Barton County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1855 by James Gardner and others as a station on the Santa Fe Trail. The first post office was established in Gardner in 1856. Gardner became a county seat in 1907 and has been since then. Gardner is located at (39.548569, -95.965912). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,717 people, 527 households, and 383 families residing in the town. The population density was 1001 people per square mile (368/km²). There were 621 housing units at an average density of 471 per square mile (182/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97% White; 0% African American; 2% Native American; and 1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3% of the population. There are 527 households out of which 36% had children under the ageof 18 living with them, 58% were married couples living together, 11% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24% were non-families. 20
Gardner Kansas history begins with the area being settled in 1873. The first post office was established in Gardner in 1875, and the first school was built in Gardner in 1876. In 1886, a railroad was established through the area, which led to increased business and development. The population of Gardner grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the city began to become one of the most important towns in southern Kansas. During World War I, Gardner served as a military base for soldiers marching across the state line into Oklahoma. After the war ended, business declined but downtown businesses continued to grow until they reached their present size. Despite its growth and prosperity during much of its history, Gardner has experienced some setbacks over time - for example, it has had trouble maintaining water supplies or building new infrastructure such as a library.
