Gardner, Kansas is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. Gardner is known for its wide variety of agriculture and ranching activities as well as its annual Bluegrass Festival which attracts many music fans from around the region.

Gunswitches continued to become more popular throughout the 20th century, but eventually fell out of favor due to their high price tags and difficulty in maintenance. Today, many firearms still use gunswitches as standard equipment.

Gardner, Kansas was first settled in 1854 by the Kansas Fur Company. The town was named after Samuel Gardner, a fur trader and owner of a ranch in Oregon Territory. The community served as the site of a military post during the Mexican-American War. In 1861, Gardner became part of Confederate Kansas when that state seceded from Missouri. After the Civil War, Gardner grew rapidly due to its location on the Santa Fe Trail and its associated businesses. By 1870, Gardner had a population of 1,500 and prospered thanks to its proximity to Wichita and Guthrie. However, like many other towns in western Kansas during this time period, Gardner declined to recognize the Union government and sided with Confederate sympathizers. In 1881, however, Gardner joined the Union fold and prospered under Union rule until World War I led to their decline. As World War I progressed, local farmers turned their attention to munitions production in nearby Wichita while Republican politicians used Gardner's declining fortunes as an opportunity to make gains at the state level. By 1921, Gardner had shrunk to just 100 residents and struggled unsuccessfully against deterioration caused by economic recession and Prohibitionism. While some elements continue to thrive today such as art galleries and restaurants within walking distance of downtown Martinez Circle (a business district), most have departed for more prosperous communities in recent decades including Lawrenceburg (population: 3,000) or Overland Park (population: 10,000). Despite these challenges, Gardner has retained its unique cultural significance as one of eastern Kansas' most significant early settlements
