The first mayor was HUGH WILSON and the first vice president was SAMUEL BALLARD Jr.. Over time, Gardner grew into one of the most successful towns in western Clay County. The local agriculture industry produced hay, oats and other grains for export; also bacon and sausage were produced at this time. Today much of what made Garner so successful has been lost to time or redevelopment - but some aspects such as its downtown district remain vibrant today with shops and restaurants all around!
