Gardner, Kansas is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Gardner was founded in 1881 by George Gardner and his wife Anna. George Gardner was born in Kanawha County, West Virginia on October 15, 1841. He came to what is now Sedgwick County with his parents in 1851 and started a store there. In 1875 he married Anna White who had also come from Kanawha County. They operated a general store until 1904 when they bought an elevator company that became Gardner Elevator Company. They served as directors of the company until their deaths in 1944 and 1951 respectively. Their son George W., Jr., served as president of the company from 1957 to 1974 and then retired as CEO before becoming governor of Kansas in 1978. The town of Gardner was platted on May 12, 1881 by John Hays with land grant number 912 (now 8th Street). The first post office opened in this town on July 2, 1886. At the time it consisted of just 10 residents; by 1890 it had grown to 31 people including six farmers and two merchants who conducted trade out of the original grocery store building which still stands today inside the town limits! In 1907-08 a new school house was built for $4200 by local entrepreneur A C Bunnell whose nameakes are well known in Gardner today for their produce stands near Main Street and US Highway 61/OK State Highway 169 junction! That same year also saw construction begin on a large garage which would become one block long and 4 stories high! This Garage would remain an important civic center into the 21st century providing ample parking for both local businesses (which continued to grow) as well as visitors/migrants alike coming through town during those early years following World War II!

Gardner, Kansas is a town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 812. It was founded in 1867 by George Gardner and named for him. The first post office was established in Gardner in 1868. Gardner is a small community located on the south bank of the Arkansas River. The area now known as Gardner was part of what were called Council Bluffs Indian reservations until 1830. In 1853, settlers from Missouri arrived at what is now Gardner and started to grow corn and beans. By 1860, there were over sixty families living in Gardner. A school was built that year and operated for three years before becoming district headquarters for Sedgwick County Schools until it closed in 1865 due to financial problems. In 1870, George Gardner purchased 6 acres (2 ha) of land at the present site of Gardner from Wm Halsey and erected a log cabin thereon. He named his new town after himself and began to build a church and other buildings thereon. The first post office opened in November 1872 with G A Butler as its first officer. The town grew rapidly because of its natural resources: wheat, oats, potatoes, cattle, soybeans, etc., which led to its nickname "Gardner's Garden." In 1886the Wichita School District became separate from Sedgwick County Schools; therefore all school districts within Sedgwick County were merged into Wichita School Districts effective September 1st 1886 pursuant to Act No 548 of 1887; however public records do not reflect this change having any impact on residents or businesses situated within Gardener proper who continued functions uninterrupted under their own auspices up until that date Garner continued growing rapidly through 1900 when it reached a peak population of 1,500 people but then gradually declined due mainly to factors such as changes in transportation options (roads improved since original settler arrivals) which made access to these riches more difficult while international trade fostered an influx of new immigrants which disrupted grain production
