The post office in Gardner was established on November 1, 1881, and served until it closed on October 15th, 1960. The history of Gardner goes back to 1881 when George Gardener arrived in this area from Pennsylvania with his family. He purchased land east of Wichita Falls and built a cabin known as Old Fort Gardner which henamed after himself. In 1902, Hutchinson developed around Gardener's cabin and by 1907 there were over 20 businesses operating within 500 feet of each other on Main Street in Hutchinson! In 1911-12 when Wichita Falls experienced a demographic shift due to World War I (a time when most people worked outside), much business activity ceased within town limits because many local vehicles were needed for military service; some businesses did manage to reopen but had renamed themselves or moved away following the war’s end*. A later report stated “There are no records extant that show how or why any new business establishments [in Hutchinson] sprang up during these years”* However if you go into any general store today you will see quite a few products that originated here such as canned goods manufactured here*, lawn mower oil*, etc.* Many people credit Hutchinson’s rebirth as being partially due to Harry Laughlin who started buying groceries here at very low prices which helped fuel demand across town lines* This also helps explain why there exists not just one bar/restaurant *but several busy locations scattered throughout downtown Hutchinson* Additionally restaurants have sprouted up all around town including one near Main Street *and even inside old fort gardner! There are currently more than twenty restaurant locations total in downtown Hutchinson!
