As a result of this involvement and wartime restrictions on cotton production, many small-scale farmers began to leave their plantations and enter into gardening instead; this led to significant growth for garden city during this time period both economically and physically speaking. This success continued into the postwar years as well; even after Michigan’s exit from the union in 1923 (the departure of which also badly affected agricultural production throughout much of eastern Kansas), garden city remained one of America’s fastest-growing cities overall between 1925 and 1945 according to federal government data (although slightly behind New York City). This rapid expansion can be partially attributed to municipal proclamations issued during these years stating that any new development within municipality boundaries must meet certain requirements such as having 500 residents or more per square mile Within five years following incorporation (1902), GardenCity had already surpassed Charlestown unincorporated community eastward along present day Interstate 25 for population size alone! These policies helped create one of America’s largest gardens while ensuring continued high levels of residential density without significantly impacting commercial activity or infrastructure - something which continues today despite occasional zoning changes promulgated by current municipality officials

Today, Garden City is still a thriving community with many active businesses and cultural attractions including two professional stadiums (Kansas State University's Sprint Center and Wichita State University's Shockley Arena), several libraries, churches and schools as well as numerous homespun shops and restaurants serving up local cuisine throughout most weekdays year-round. Although some aspects have changed over time - such as more recent development around Interstate 670 - there is no doubt that what makes Garden City so unique are its proud traditions dating back to 1867 when it was founded as a small farming town on the fringes of rural Kansas
The Garden City, Kansas community began to form in the early 1800s when a group of farmers decided to move from nearby Wichita. They named their new town Garden City after the city of London in England. The town grew quickly and by 1854, it had a population of over 400 people.
