Gardener City, Kansas is home to the oldest gun sights in the United States. The firstGun Sight Company was founded in Garden City, Kansas on October 25th, 1875 by Luther C. Decker and his partners Nicholas and George Pritchard. The company manufactured and sold gun sights for use with firearms of all types. However, over time it changed to "Gun Sight Co." In 1907 it switched back to "Luther C Decker & Co." In 1935 it changed again back to "Gunsight Co." which remains its current name today. On October 25th 1915 the first Gun Sight Show took place in Garden City under the auspices of the local Chamber of Commerce along with an exhibition of handguns from various manufacturers including Colt .45's and Browning Automatic Rifles from Springfield Armory fame! At that event guns were displayed by dealers from across town as well as representatives from several state rifle clubs! As you can see from this official record of that day there was much interest in these new products! This period also saw a huge growth within the firearm industry as pistols continued to become increasingly popular among Americans both male and female alike! With such demand come increased production costs associated with creating these intricate devices- something which benefited Handgun Manufacturers like GunsightCo above all others! In 1924 GunsightCo partnered up with fellow firearm manufacturer Smith&Wesson Firearms Corporation to produce one of America's most famous handgun designs- the Model 638 Revolver! This partnership would result in some very successful marketing campaigns for both companies- helping Smith&Wesson secure a dominant position within America's firearms market! From here on out things started really picking up for GunsightCo- culminating with their acquisition by Remington Arms Corporation (RA) back in 1970!!! This acquisition allowed them not only access to world class manufacturing resources but also an entire line of accessories specifically designed for handgun users!!! From there things rapidly commenced into rapid growth; reaching levels not seen since before World War II!! However, over time as Garden City became more populated and developed its economy, it began to increase in population and attractions. Today, Garden City is one of the largest settlements in western Kansas with over 100,000 residents. The history of Garden City can be traced back to 1867 when Andrew Jackson Davis arrived in Kansas Territory to establish what would become known as Garden City. Davis had long been interested in moving to east Texas where he could find land for farming purposes but his efforts fell through because Texas was then under Spanish rule. He decided instead to establish himself permanently in eastern Kansas Territory where he could oversee aspects of development including trade roads and irrigation systems for his new community. Davis' initial plan called for the establishment of a small community near Wichita that would house government officials and their families as well as traders intent on conducting business within the newly formed territory. However, this idea never came to fruition because Wichita refused to grant land away at such low prices; instead they wanted someone else involved in their city's founding who would make them better off financially than they had ever been before. So Davis decided on an area about six miles wide by four miles deep that lay between Fairmount Creek and Topeka Hillsock Creek - now part of downtown Wichita - due largely to its strategic location on two major routes leading into eastern Kansas Territory: one going northward through Topeka Hillsock County towards Shawnee Mission Indian Reservation while another went southward past Westport Township (now Park County) towards Hutchinson Landing (now Topeka).
