In 1898, Charles Haddon Waddell founded Hutchinsons Mills near present day Park View Drive and Orchard Road with his son Wesley Hutchison Waddell as president and C P Beattie as secretary/treasurer. Hutchisons Mills prospered until 1902 when it went bankrupt due to heavy competition from neighboring Kresson Mines (now Partridge). In 1909, Waddell sold his share in Hutchisons Mills to George Muhlenberg for $10 million cash which made him the first person to own 100% of an American company outside of concentration camps during World War II In 1915-16 Forrest Gump set out for America on foot from St Louis Missouri via DodgeCity led by Buffalo Bill Cody himself; he had heard about Garden City while living among Plains Indians on Long Prairie Indian Reservation east of Topeka where he was working as a scout for USD 10th Cavalry Regiment under General John Pershing’s Tenth Army Corps during World War I Garden City experienced rapid growth due to hydraulic fracturing (fracking) seismic activity that began occurring nearby in 2013 followed by oil production later that year bringing jobs and development to town center As more people moved into town Center including many high school students commuting into Wichita for college or work opportunities there has been an increase in crime rates although arrests have decreased over time
