When Garden City was founded in 1865, it was a small town of about 7,000 people. The area that is now Garden City belonged to the Shawnee Nation and was not opened to white settlement until 1871. At that time, local farmers started to grow wheat and other crops, and needed clothing for their workers. So they began buying cloth from Indian traders and selling it back to the Indians. In 1872, one of the farmers in Garden City started making his own clothes from cloth he had bought from Indian traders. He named his company "J.H. Smith & Son." This man's children continued making clothes for themselves and for sale until 1925 when J.H.'s son died without children who could take over the business. In 1925, another farmer in Garden City started a similar business called "Fountain Clothing Company." Garden City, Kansas is a small city in the US state of Kansas. The population was 8,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Garden City is bordered by Augsburg to the north, Spencer County to the east, and Topeka to the south. The first settler in Garden City was James Mclntyre who arrived in 1854 from Augusta, Georgia. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and named it Garden City after his home town in Scotland. In 1857, he married Mary Jane Haskell and they moved into what is now Park Avenue. They had two children before she died in 1861. James Mclntyre passed away in 1865 but his wife's death not long after made him sole proprietor of Garden City which he kept until 1889 when he sold it to Prentice Gentry for $2,500 cash. From 1889-1914, Prentice Gentry ran the city as an executive mayor form 1914 until his death in 1948 leaving it to his son John Gentry who continued running it as an independent mayor until 1959 when Wichita annexed Garden City making it part of their city limits The post office closed on September 30th 1954 due to lack of mail volume so no letter has been received from that date In 1961, Wichita annexation created a new Municipal District including all of southeastern Kansas which led to increased growth for Garden City with more businesses moving into town such as K-Mart and Sears Roebuck John Gentry became Mayor again from 1959-1978 through 1978–1981 then he resigned effective January 1st 1981 because Wichita refused to give him a third term for fear he would annex other cities once more On January 3rd 1981 there was another municipal election where incumbent Mayor John Gentry lost re-election by just 612 votes (outfielding Independent candidate Don Bogle) though this time there were no annexation proposals brought up; this signaled an end to mayoral elections being held every four years This effectively ended any hope that gardencity would gain annexation back Since then there have been numerous attempts by residents or business owners within downtown core or elsewhere within city limits for something called "municipal consolidation" with little success due either because Wichita refuses outright or because they feel that giving too much power back outside of downtown core will only result in less business opportunities and even less efficiency inside the shrinking urban fabric currently left behind

When militias began forming in America during the late 17th century, officers began wearing uniforms made from better cloth than what was available at home, which afforded them greater protection from battle damage and also allowed them to be identified by their rank and unit affiliation. This type of uniform eventually evolved into modern day military attire. During World War I different types of “battle dress” had to be devised for various theaters including trench warfare on open ground where an infantry soldier is exposed to machine gunfire for hours on end; hand-to-hand combat with enemies who may have been armed with grenades or rifles; air combat where pilots must move quickly through tight spaces above enemy bombers/fighters; etc.; however common field Dress remained unchanged until after armistice negotiations led to general disarmament across most countries save those that continued belligerent behavior resulting in military uniforms becoming obsolete due largely to technological advances rather than traditional battlefield standardization (e.g., webbing instead of straps between shoulder blades). Garden City became a census-designated place in 1966. It has since grown into a major regional center, with a population of over 120,000 as of 2010.
