Since its founding, Garden City has been home to many businesses and organizations including Wichita Air National Guard Base (now Wichita State Airport), K-12 schools (including Butler Elementary School and Haskell Junior High School), community colleges ( including Wichita State University–Main Campus), two professional sports teams – major league baseball’s Rangers and American football’s Chiefs – as well as several theaters and other attractions such as an amusement park and a botanical garden. Garden City experiences heavy growth during high school years due to its proximity to Wichita State University; however, since 2000 or so there has been a decrease in population growth rate due to immigration from Mexico which has replaced some native-born citizens with migrant workers who often bring more expensive housing options into town while also reducing available job opportunities for locals

Garden City, Kansas was founded in 1871 by pioneers and settlers. The town flourished for a time, but then disappeared in the Great Depression. Today, Garden City is a small community located in northeastern Kansas. It is known for its beautiful gardens and rolling hills, as well as its rich history. The first people to live in Garden City were farmers who arrived from Ohio in 1851. They built their houses on the banks of the Missouri River and started a small farm. The town began to grow when post office officials decided to move it to the location that is now downtown Garden City. In 1925, Mayor Hiram Powers dedicated a new park in downtown Garden City to honor Captain James Fenton of the United States Revenue Cutter Service. Captain Fenton had been lost at sea while trying to find a shortcut across the ocean using this same route that later became Interstate 82. One of the most important moments for Garden City occurred during World War II when it became an air base for Operation Overlord (the Normandy invasion). The town was bombed repeatedly by Allied bombers, but never suffered any damagesignificant enough to Basify itself elsewhere. In fact, much of what damage was done came from German artillery fire which could be heard from miles away! After World War II ended, many people left or were forced out of Garden City due to economic problems caused by tight money shortages after the end of hostilities Parker Palmer opened his own golf course and Casino called "Palmer's Palace" on Main Street near today's High School campus which attracted major league baseball players like Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth while also hosting country music stars such as Hank Williams Jr., Willie Dixon and Merle Haggard
