Nannie and James Wetherill were the first white families to live permanently in central Missouri after moving from Indiana. After living for several years with their children at their new home, they decided to move back to Independence County where they bought an old mill that was being used as a farmhouse. In 1875, Nannie Wetherill organized her first women's organization called The National Association for Woman Suffrage which later changed its name to CentralIUna Women's Club Incorporated (CIVIC). This early effort by Nannie Wetherill helped spark interest among local women in voting rights and other political issues. In 1886, Nannie Wetherill organized another group called "The American Federation for Equal Rights" which later became theNational Women’s Party (NWP). On October 15th1886Nancy Wetherill gave an address entitled “A Warning From Our Lady” before a meeting of forty-eight women scheduled for Wednesday evening at Sevenoaks Hall under the auspices of Central Illinois Woman’s Club Incorporated (CIVIC). At this meeting she announced that she had formed a separate organization called “The Republican National Committee for Woman suffrage” with Drusilla Mclntyre as its president; this organization failed miserably due largely to lack of support from local woman leaders who felt that national leadership should be reserved for men only. However NancyWetherill did manage successfully to get some signatures on petitions seeking passage of the Nineteenth Amendment To THE United States Constitution legalizing female voting within THE United States In 1908 while still employed by Central Illinois Woman’s Club Incorporated (CIVIC), Mrs Jane Addams discovered embezzlement taking place at her old employer which led her TO PURCHASE AND OPERATE A NEW EMPORIA BUSINESS – ANTI-VOTING FOUNDATION She named her business – “Jane Addams Fund” Thereafter Jane Addams played an important role not only fundraising but also operatingthe foundation until she passed away in 1959 On July 1st 1907 Kansas City became The City Of Emporian when it merged with nearby Wichita Falls becoming one large metropolitan area with over 100K residents
