Wylie named this location for James Millington Emory (1820-1882), one of five children born to surveyor Ebenezer Millington and his wife Lucy Northrop Emory (1815-1886). James Millington Emory immigrated to America from England aboard "Bristol" on September 15th 1840 with his parents and siblings Jonathan (1799-1852), Hannah (1798-1853), Sarah Ann (1797-1858)and Nicholas John (1800-1855).
