Derby, Kansas is home to the oldest ammunition company in the United States. The firm was founded in 1874 by two men who were looking for a way to make their own cannonballs. They found a local mine and began manufacturing bullets and cannons. The business grew quickly and in 1892, they moved to their current location on Main Street. From then until 1988, Derby Ammunition was one of the largest manufacturers of ammunition in the United States. The company produced both smallarms munitions (bullets and artillery shells) as well as large-calibre weapons such as cannons and tanks. Derby Ammunition was also responsible for developing new propellants for artillery shells, among other products. In addition, they developed several methods of firing artillery projectiles which led to their nickname "The Artillery Company." Ammunition production at Derby ended in 1988 when NATO transitioned to full-automatic fire with its new assault rifles. At that time, all production of ammunition ceased - an event that has been attributed to the high cost of materials necessary for such a project. However, since then, reloading supplies have become more accessible online and there is continued demand for old-school ammunition around the world.

Derby, Kansas had its beginnings in 1851 when a group of farmers and boys founded the town on the banks of the Arkansas River. The name Derby derives from "delaware," which was the original land grant to the town. In 1857, when Kansas became a state, Derby was part of Wyandotte County. On January 16, 1861, Confederate Major John P. Fremont arrived in Derby with 1,200 soldiers to attack Union forces near Topeka. A battle ensued and Fremont was killed; his body was never found. The townsfolk renamed Derby after him and kept his Indian name for themselves (Wyandotte). On November 3rd of that year, a fire destroyed most of Derby's buildings and all but one resident were evacuated before it could burn down again. The remaining residents rebuilt their homes within a few weeks and by December 1st had re-opened shop doors as usual. In 1871, Iowa State Agricultural College opened in nearby Lawrenceburg; this led to more businesses opening up in Derby including flour mills (which continued until World War II), insurance companies (founded by two brothers who ran an insurance agency out of their home), shoe stores (owned by Molineux Brothers) and other commercial firms until the late 1800s when autos came into vogue and horse-drawn vehicles began to decline in popularity. In 1907, Kalamazoo Brewing Company started brewing beer at what is now known as Fourth Street Brewery; this led to other small breweries opening up throughout downtown Derby over time until there were only three left by 1995: Central Missouri Brewing Co., Old National Brewery & Distillery Inc., and Derbyshire Ale Works Ltd.; all current or former operators Springdale Brewing Co., Renegade Breweries LLC.,Derby Ale Works LLP., Central Missouri Brewing Co.). The population of Derby peaked at around 10,000 during World War II due to wartime demand for munitions production; however this number dropped rapidly following the war as many citizens relocated outside ofKansas City or Wichita due to economic opportunities available elsewhere. However, since then there has been steady growth with about 12% annual growth reported between 2000-2010 according to Department Of Commerce data; this is partially attributable to recent efforts by city officials such as Mayor Greg Stanton along with private developers such as Midland Capital Partners LLC who are making efforts towards redeveloping downtown areas into mixed use/retail/office skyscrapers which would add another layer of jobs onto an already growing local economy.

The "Church Hill" section contains more petunias then people! derby creek flows through town limits so you can never go too deep without finding some live tadpoles or better yet frogs darting out from under rocks just waiting to be caught!

However , during Operation Neptune's Spear , Australian forces used DU projectiles against enemy positions on Bougainville Island . This successful attack helped win Australia's first major victory in World War II
