Coffeyville is a small town in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 538 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first guns in Coffeyville were shotguns and rifles imported from Europe. From 1881 to 1886, there were three gunsmiths in Coffeyville and twelve rifle shooters. In 1892, a post office was established in Coffeyville and mail was carried by wagon to Wichita. The first store in Coffeyville was built on Main Street in 1890 by Wm. Haggerty and his son-in-law Jno. Reardon. A blacksmith shop opened east of town on Second Street in 1903 by Isaac Haggerty Sr., with an attached garage for his horse cars until 1916 when it became a Ford dealership. In 1907, Prentice & White started making their own firearms at their machine shop on Third Street northeast of town (now known as Hutchinson Machine Shop). They made revolvers, pistols and shotguns before World War I stopped them from manufacturing any more firearms due to the war effort; however they continued to make parts for other companies’ guns until 1921 when they closed up shop permanently due to lack of demand for their items after the war ended.. From 1928 until 1956, John Ladd operated the only grocery store west of Wichita called "The Gents." It had a six-section counter that served local farmers and hunters as well as those traveling through Wichita looking for food because no grocery delivery service existed then or exists now within city limits! In fact today's City Limits residents are still able to purchase groceries from John Ladd's store even though it is now closed down! He also sold Western boots (later replaced by Skechers) along with candy bars from his front porch until 1975 when he discontinued operations due to health concerns!

When Omaha annexed neighboring towns in 1915–16, it annexed Coffeyville as well; thus Wabasha County was formed from parts of Osborne and Coffeyville. The post-World War II population growth in Wabasha County has caused problems for both counties; most notably with regard to land ownership and development patterns. The county seat is located within Wabasha City Limits but there is no zoning or other restrictions on house building that would allow for an extensive downtown development like exists within neighboring Platte City or Beatrice. This situation has led to tension between the two villages over control of key infrastructure such as transportation links and public services which are essential to both communities’ functionability
Coffeyville was founded in 1854 by John Coffey and his family. The town was named for General James H. Coffey, who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1876, Coffeyville became the county seat of Finney County. In 1914, the United States Postal Service moved from Topeka to Coffeyville to reduce mailing costs.
