The town's population reached 9,000 by 1910. The post office closed in 1959, but the town has continued to function as a small community with a combined population of over 10,000 people since then.
Coffeyville is a small community in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first post office in Coffeyville was established on December 6, 1871, and was known as "Santa Fe". The present town name was given to it by George W. Coffey, who owned land in the area. The town developed primarily around a cotton gin and grocery store operated by J.D. Reid & Brothers from its inception until 1906. A second cotton gin and grocery store were built in 1911 by Samuel Salyer & Sons; these stores remain open today as Coffeyville Shopping Centers Incorporated. In 1916 the first telephone line was installed in the town; at that time there were only a few homes with telephones available to residents. In 1952 an all-wooden high school gymnasium and baseball stadium were built on what is now east side of Interstate 40 just north of Coffeyville Elementary School; this facility served as the original home of Wichita High School (now Wichita State University). The football team played their home games at this venue for many years before moving to new facilities nearby in 1984. In 2006 an addition to west side of I-40 near Coffeyville Elementary School increased capacity for both football and soccer stadiums while reducing travel times between fields making it possible for more local events such as rodeos and concerts to be held here without departing from Wichita or taking other routes into the city center

In addition to its role as an educational institution, Duffield also served as home to local newspapers for many years before they were discontinued due to competition from more modern paper sources. In recent years Duffield has been making some strides towards revitalization with new businesses popping up along with increased cultural events like art shows and music festivals which have helped draw attention to this once sleepy town again.
