Many people living near Mexican border towns at that time experienced excitement and fear when they heard about this large force coming; some even went so far as to dress like cowboys and ride around downtownOnlookers could see many cannons mounted on wagons providing cover while horsemen conducted scout patrols across open country looking for any sign of Indians or cavalry waiting to ambush them should they attempt such an attack. The crossing did not go well and only resulted in a few skirmishes before General Custer reached his destination safely without incident just east of Wichita Falls, Texas four days later. When America gained independence from Great Britain, one main goal had been to secure all of Northwest Arkansas Territorial District including parts currently encompassed within Arapaho County (now McLennan County). On July 26, 1776 David Rice laid out a plan for what would become Wichita County comprising much of today's Arapaho County after defeating then-chiefSioux leader Black Hawk at Battle Creek Bridge near present-day Waco OK on August 14th that year; however due lack political will by then President George Washington he instead granted squatters along Clearwater Creek Settlements east & northward including those located at Atchison - naming it after himself - Kaw Vachey Comanche rather than give it back to Sioux leader Red Cloud who had surrendered two weeks earlier following failed siege attempts surrounding Fort Mckinney KS During Republic Period these Indian settlements were often raided by United States Cavalry performing punitive raids resulting in scalps & captives being taken as retribution
