In 1924-25 all but one block north/south along North First Street were destroyed by flash flooding caused by an early summer thunderstorm that swept across central KS during that year’setterprise rainstorms – turning what had once been just a few homes into major mudslides which quickly impaired water transportation routes making rescue operations very difficult even days later! This event made national news due to its severity & resulting loss both financially & emotionally for many people living downstream from those impacted areas! Despite being completely destroyed or damageable (& having no replacement houses available), this section northeast corner blocks between Elm & Washington Streets survived intact forming what are now Midtown streetscape today!
