Arkansas City, Kansas is a city in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita–Arkansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Arkansas City was David Funk who arrived in 1857. In 1870, John Futchman and his wife built a farm on the site which they namedArkansas City after their home state of Arkansas. The town charter was granted on November 14th, 1875 by Mayor A. M. Butterfield and it became an incorporated municipality on January 1st of that year with Daniel Boone as its first mayor/councilman/ recorder

Arkansas City, Kansas was founded in 1857 by Quaker brothers Amos and Edward Fenton. The town's first post office was established in 1858. It grew rapidly due to its location on the Arkansas River, which made it a convenient location for shipping goods and for manufacturing. In 1865, the Fenton brothers bought land north of the river and founded what is now known as Kansai County. The town's growth stalled during the 1870s because of a lack of water resources and an influx of immigrants from Japan. However, by the turn of the century, Arkansas City had become one of Kansas' leading cities. The city underwent a series of expansions throughout the 20th century, including becoming home to several large shopping malls and colleges.

The town was founded in 1868 by John W. White and named for the Arkansas River which flows through it. The first post office in Arkansas City was established in 1870. The present opera house and other buildings were built in 1903-1904 by J.M. Reed & Son as a commercial enterprise called the Arkadelphia Opera House. It burned down on Valentine's Day 1904 but was rebuilt with assistance from the Works Progress Administration (WPA). In 1952, the Arkadelphia Opera House became the home of Kansas State University's music department and still serves as that institution's main auditorium today. In 1907, Methodists organized what is now known as First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City under Revs Auld and Allgood based on principles brought to them by John Wesley Powell when he visited Sedgwick County during his " American Explorations" trip that year. This church served as their meeting place until its merger with First Presbyterian Church of Wichita in 1961 to form present day First United Methodist Church Wichita-Arkansas City District #1_. There have been numerous changes over time within this denomination since then but their basic teachings remain unaltered: sermons are preached each Sunday morning where congregants are able to share any thoughts or feelings they may have about pastorally significant events happening around them that week; social services are also provided each Wednesday night after evening worship service; children can go to school while parents prepare dinner; baptisms and weddings are conducted at Christmastime; there is an annual Christmas party providing entertainment for workers at local amusement park located adjacent to downtown; memberships start at $5 per month with optional dues received thereafter allowing individual churches greater discretion in how they provide various essential services such as prayer meetings/fellowship gatherings/advice counseling/drama classes etc.; holiday celebrations include traditional family gathering functions including cookies and candy distributed beforeChristmas Eve service followed by eggnog distribution throughout downtown on New Year's Eve - all without having to leave their homes! Many people who work here commute into Wichita or other larger cities for jobs that pay better wages though commuting rates have remained relatively stable over time albeit increasing somewhat recently due mainly to heavy employment growth at nearby Boeing Field which has drawn some residents away from town since 2007
