During World War II, Arkansas City became one of several major American cities which contributed towards military production across the country. In 1945, local businesses produced over one million gallons (4 million liters) of gasoline for use in V-2 rockets developed by Boeing Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas; this output helped contribute to victory over Japan in that war. Today, there are numerous cultural attractions located within or near ArkansasCity including three main theaters: First National Repertory Theatre; Korte Arts Center; and Mid-America ArtsCenter District IMAX theater complex where visitors can enjoy live shows from new Broadway productions as well as classic repertories from both North America and Europe while enjoying excellent public transportation options to reach all parts of town. There are also several dozen restaurants scattered throughout downtown with a wide variety of cuisine available; popular choices include characterized by freshness, quality ingredients and attentive service.

Arkansas City is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas, located on the Arkansas River. The population was 507 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Topeka-Aldridge, KS Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlement in what is now Arkansas City was made by French traders and travelers who voyageuried through this area in 1778. The site they selected for their trading post was near present-day Topeka, then a small Indian village with only a few dwellings. In 1812, General James Hays's army attacked and destroyed the village, burning everything along the river but leaving behind many buildings that still stand today including the Arkansas City Library and Courthouse complex which are among Kansas' most well-preserved examples of pioneer architecture. On March 24, 1820, James Kossuth built his first brick home in what is now downtown Arkansas City after purchasing land from Tecumseh Birdsong and others near present day First Baptist Church on Main Street. By 1830, Kossuth had erected several other homes as well as two stores and a blacksmith shop within what is now downtown Arkansas City limits. In 1836, due to increasing tensions between Great Britain and America over slavery abolitionism, President Andrew Jacksonordered all American citizens to leave Jackson County until such time as there were satisfactory changes being made to AMERICAN slavery laws–a order that would not be fully implemented until 1861 when Missouri became a slave state following its admission into Confederation with American Union). As a result of this order local citizens voted (by referendum) to become an independent city Limits under the name "Arkansas City." On January 12th of that year (1836), voters approved becoming an "independent" city by overwhelming majorities vote with 309 out of 527 ballots cast – making it one of the last original charter cities in Kansas before it joined Kansas Statehood onJanuary 15th OF THAT YEAR! The new city limit had been created from parts of Independence (now Shawnee) County which had seceded from Kansas during THE FIRST SESSION OF KANSAS STATE CONSTITUTION AS RELATED TO SLAVERY ABOLITIONIST ACTIVITY! While much has changed since Arkansas City became an independently chartered city; such as becoming one of America's most racially segregated cities; its history remains deeply rooted within its community today as evidenced by its rich heritage which includes many landmarks dating back more than 200 years including: the first courthouse in America built outsideof Philadelphia ...the oldest continuously operating grocery store west of Stroudsburg ...the first hospital northOF Wichita ...the largest flour mill east OF Chicago ...the largest cotton gin westOf Manhattan
