The original plat for what would become ArkansasCity Municipal Park showed six blocks northeast of present-day Waterfront Avenue with streets running southwest to northeast concurrent with US 36/Highway 507 just south of Airport Boulevard which served as a crossroads for wagon trains traveling between Dodge City (Kansas) and Topeka (Kansas). A year later, local dentist Augustus Crouch proposed naming the new town after himself—a gesture he hoped would boost civic development in his hometown following years during which residents had paid little attention to their surroundings or each other despite being strategically located within easy travel distance for both Kansas CITY & OKLAHOMA CITY.
