It wasn't long before other businesses began to erect targets on their properties as well and by 1907, there were twelve firearms available for purchase in Andover.
Andover is a town in Lancaster County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Andover is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Andover began as a post-office on February 14, 1878, with a population of three. It became an incorporated town on November 3, 1903. Andover is named for Rev. John A. Andover (1821–92), pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Topeka and one of the founders of that church's original congregation in 1868. The first settlers were farmers who arrived from Illinois in 1875 and soon erected log cabins overlooking the Potawatomie River floodplain. In 1880 they built a gristmill which continued to be run until 1912 when it was destroyed by fire; its ruins remain today near Main Street and Park Avenue. The mill had two waterwheels which powered a large hand saw while also providing power for farm machinery; these machines are still seen around town today used for farming or militia work during wartime periods when access to electricity was unavailable or expensively bought outside of town limits). In 1905 Andover leaders voted to become an incorporated city with its own mayor and council; this vote was not ratified by the voters because no property owner wanted their village annexed into their larger community (the incorporation process time-consuming and costly).
