In 1907-08, Andover won state recognition as an agricultural center through participation in State Fair Week activities organized by the Kansas Department of Agriculture; during this time period many new factories were established along Withrow Road including two breweries – Heublein Brewery Company Ltd., incorporated 1888 and again renamed Heublein Brewing Co., Incorporated 1915 – soon followed by others: Pabst Brewing Company 1929 (renamed Pabst Brewing Corporation), American Bittersweet Tea Manufacturing Company 1934-35 (now part of Allied Biscuits), Allis Chalmers Cheese manufacturing company 1938-39 (renamed Allis Chalmers Cheese & Grain Co.), O’Reilly’s Shoes 1945-46 (renamed Schuhmacher’s Shoes before being bought by Nike Corporation), Armour Meat Packers Incorporated 1951-52 (renamed Schlumberger meatpacking company). The agricultural production during this time also led Tooele County to become selfsufficient with their own farm services such as manure handling for agriculture products, feedlot services for livestock operations etc.; banks located throughout rural communities served these needs too with ample credit availability due to tight lending regulations at that time precluding much personal debt service even for small businesses . In 1962 all nonessential factory jobs were eliminated within Withrow Township following enactment of US President John F Kennedy's New Frontier speech calling for "a society where every man can get ahead without leaving home." This included most notably Schlumberger meatpacking company which employed over 6000 people then but would eventually lay off almost all its employees because Ofheros Petroleum Co., founded 1948 by brothers Dick Miller and Don Christensen operated adjacent facilities Sunrise Refining Plant 1969 - 1975) while local steel manufacturer Armour decided not open up shop any more having converted its plant into Ford Motorsports Division 1970 creating what is now Midwestern Steel Workers Local Union No.(119)
