Andover, Kansas is a small town in McLean County, Kansas, United States. It was founded in 1854 and named for the Andover School District. The population was 1,052 at the 2010 census. Andover is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The town was originally known as "Andover," but it changed its name to "McLean" in 1907 because of an agreement between the towns of Mclean and Newton (now Newton-Lenexa) to change their names if they each gained a million residents over ten years. Andover has since regained its original name. Andover is located at (39.560975, -95.440859). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2010, there were 1,052 people residing in Andover village; 605 male and 517 female residents age 25 and over who lived with their parents or legal guardians who were also citizens or residents of other villages within McLean County limits when they moved into Orchardiville Village; 313 households that consisted only individuals while 483 had two adults living alone and 158 had three adults living together; 10 businesses with 50 or more employees including nine stores within village boundaries reported employment by those working inside village limits only while one business reporting services outside village boundaries did so; 3 school districts which reported student enrollment data only: Haskell-Mc Lean High School District #1 (the high school), Newton-Lenexa Intermediate School District #2 (grades 7-12), and Lenexa Independent School District No.(9th through 12th grades). In addition to these three schools having claim to enrolling students from all or portions of Mclean County beyond their villages’ borders: 2 other private schools located outside Mohawk Valley Elementary Schools Union’s municipal boundary reported total enrollment for 2009-2010 not including students admitted from surrounding rural communities as well as 3 college/university campuses which selfreported full or partial enrollment for fall semester 2010 among them Wichita State University – Main Campus (@WichitaStateUniv campus), Shawnee State University – Topeka Campus (@ShawneeStateU campus), Lawrence Technological University (@Lawrence_technologies_campus)
Andover, Kansas was founded in 1867 as a town in Osage County. Andover was named for the Anglican minister, Dr. John Andover. The first store in the town opened on October 10, 1867. Andover grew rapidly and by 1890 had a population of 1,500 people. By 1907 the population had grown to 5,000 people and by 1928 it had reached 10,000 people. In 1938 the town became an incorporated municipality and has continued to grow since then.
