In 1836, Joel Parker sold 1,200 acres (500 hectares) of land in present day Polk County for $1000 US dollars which became known as "Parker's Purchase". This site would later become known as "Green Lake" after Green Lake Park which was developed there in 1907 by local entrepreneur James A. Garfield and his son John A."Garland". The city of Green Lake was established in 1907 when it was annexed into Polk County. In 1846, a group of farmers led by John Davenport organized an expedition called the Iowa Rangers to explore new lands within Iowa watershed including what are today Clearwater Township, Clearwater Creek Township, Dunkirk Township and parts of east Amesbury Township; these initial explorations would lead toIowa City being founded as a town on November 26th of that year with Chiefs Isaac Asimov (1827-1900), David Dodge (1828-1910) and Jacob Wittichman (1798-1876). On January 6th of 1850 a party led by Gideon Welles arrived at Rock Island Rapids just upstream from where modern day downtown Wichita Falls stands today and discovered what would become named Des Moines River about three miles wide with rapids located near current day Rock Island Landing on its left bank opposite Deans Bridge on its right bank approximately 12 miles downstream from where Sioux City now stands; this discovery opened up much speculation among early settlers about possible locations for future settlements along our great river system! More exploration followed during this time period but no definitive evidence arose confirming Chaska’s claim that we did indeed flow through ancient India down into this valley long ago – something many believed despite lack of any physical evidence! It wasn’t until 1854 when two men named George Washington Smith chartered the first steamboat ever built traveling upriver on the current Iowa side of Rock Island Rapids – resulting in one payment for use thereof plusage which sum total amounted to $5US! This demonstrates how important it was for white settlers throughout America during this time period to secure treaties & agreements with Native American leaders before beginning anyattacks against them!!! Prior thereto many whites were slaughtered while tryingto purchase goods or land from these people thru force or threats!!
